  • Two factors are driving the adoption of bio-derived polymers in food packaging: fluctuating oil prices and brand and retailer commitments to UNSDG Target 12.
  • Bio-derived polymers are made from biomass, such as agricultural waste or lignin, instead of fossil fuels.
  • Bio-derived polymers can be used to create drop-in replacements for fossil-derived polymers, such as bPE, bPP, and bPET.
  • Bio-derived polymers can also be used to create new polymers with improved properties, such as PEF and PTF.
  • Consumer education is critical to ensure that consumers understand the benefits of bio-derived polymers.
